Who Is This For?

Is your creative business trapped on a marketplace?

Having your business website only on a marketplace (like Etsy, TikTok shop, or Facebook Marketplace) is risky. If the marketplace changes the algorithm, your reach could plummet unless you pay ever-increasing fees. If they change the rules, you could have a very short amount of time to find an alternative platform. Having your own website helps protect you against these risks.

Are you bored of bland corporate design?

You get access to the marketplace’s customers. You have different photos and different descriptions. But to the customer, you’re still one stall out of many, part of the large corporate entity. They’re not your customer. They belong to that large corporation.

A handcrafted website will give you new opportunities to expand beyond the technical limitations of your shop. Put your exact brand on a website to truly curate your customer experience. They’re your customers and you should own your relationship with them.

You want more than a basic template. You deserve something more than the sanitized corporate experience we’re trapped into on marketplaces.

Do you have 40+ hours to learn how to make a website?

To create a new website, you have to sign up for hosting and install your content management system, even before you get to the design aspect. Then, once you’ve selected a template, you’ll find out that even good templates take time to customize, especially if you’re new.

You could absolutely figure it out, but do you want to use that time making the website? Your time is valuable and it should be spent working on the actual projects that make you money: Your art.

Does the thought of using AI make your skin crawl?

You wouldn’t use generative AI on your artwork. Why would you use generative AI on your artwork’s home?

My previous decade of experience in design has made me especially good at designing for humans. Websites don’t have to sacrifice accessibility for beauty. Your customers deserve more than AI slop pretending to be a slick user experience.

How does this work?

We start with a free 15 minute video call over Zoom. (You can schedule it via Calendly.) I’ll ask you about your project and your current website.

I send you a proposal based on our conversation (but no actual design work yet).

When you make your decision, we sort out legal and financial stuff so I can schedule your project on the calendar.

Then you send me content. I send specific checklists and instructions, so there’s no guesswork involved. The faster I get your content, the sooner I can start working on your rough designs.

Black and white designs will show multiple sketchy concepts of what your website could look like, based on the content you provided. Everything will be rough in this stage to help us focus on the basics.

I send a video walkthrough. You provide feedback. I use your feedback to finish the designs.

Using your branding, logos, content, and photos, I make the design look as close to pixel-perfect as possible. Again, I send a video walkthrough. After your feedback, then we make it real.

I walk you through setting up your hosting account and making sure I have the correct access.

I start work on translating the design to your real website. You can view real time updates, but everything always looks messier before it gets better. I send you updates when big changes are ready for review.

Once done, we test it. Two sets of eyes will make sure we catch all possible mistakes.

You send the final payment.

Then we go live!

Who am I?

I’m Ed Miller. I’ve spent the past 10 years designing software to help big companies run their businesses more efficiently. I’ve helped them save millions of dollars, but that didn’t save me from a layoff. With the corporate world the way that it is today, I decided to return to my roots: Designing websites for the little guy.

My first taste of the web design business was for a niche, but popular fanfiction website. (No, not that one. The one I worked on is not around anymore.) I got to work on something fun and exciting. Working on creative business projects is that same kind of exciting. There’s something new every day.

I learned a lot in the past decade and now I get to use those powers for good. (Not that I did evil things, but I definitely wasn’t able to make as much impact for the people as I really would have liked.)

I will make the back end of your site make your job easier, while the front end makes it easier for your customers to say, “Hell yeah!”
